Another Victim of Intimate Partner Homicide in the Hudson Valley

On Thursday 9/15/11 Lars Ryder pleaded not guilty to killing his ex-girlfriend Elizabeth Mucci and then burning, dismembering and disposing of her body.

According to the Times Herald Record, Mucci and Ryder had been together for about 18 months. Ms. Mucci had apparently told her sisters and brother that Ryder started drinking again and that they were having arguments.  The investigation started when one of Ms. Mucci’s legs washed ashore at Swinging Bridge Reservoir on 5/28/11. Ryder is believed to have killed her, dismembered her body and then disposed of it. After doing so he is alleged to have used her credit card at Wal-Mart on 4/27/11 and again on 4/30/11.      http://bit.ly/pZCwQP

Ms. Mucci’s statement to her family that Ryder started drinking again leads to the question, was he abusive to her in the past when he drank? Did he physically assault her in the past? Are there police or hospital reports from past incidents? Did Ms.Mucci confide in anyone else? Are there other women out there Ryder has abused or assaulted in the past?

When conducting investigations into intimate partner homicide these and more questions must be asked of the victim’s family friends and co-workers. There is usually a previous pattern of abusive and violent behavior that has been exhibited in the past. The key is to document that behavior while it is happening in the form of an Evidentiary Abuse Affidavit (EAA) so the evidence can be brought out in the event the victim disappears or is killed.   http://bit.ly/o0L1Bu
