Intimate Partner Violence has struck Orange County, NY in the form of homicide.
In an article reported today in the Times Herald Record, the body of 27 year old Kathleen Connolly was found buried in the backyard of a New Windsor home. Her live in boyfriend 39 year old Timothy Handel is the prime suspect in the investigation.
According to the story Ms. Connolly went missing from her Lancaster, PA home on July 7, 2011, but was not reported missing until July 21, 2011. Timothy Handel, who was also originally from Orange County, returned recently with the two young daughters he had with Ms. Connolly. They moved into the basement apartment of an old friend of his, Bonnie Glazier. Ms. Glazier was on vacation at the time Handel moved in. When she returned she found that her backyard had been dug up. She became suspicious and learned of Kathleen’s disappearance on the Internet and called the police.
One can only wonder what facts will come to light as the investigation into Ms. Connolly’s unfortunate death continues.
Are police reports of past instances of abuse and assault on file?
Are medical records of previous injuries sustained by Ms. Connolly on file?
Were any of her friends, relatives, or co-workers aware of the abuse she was suffering?
Did Ms. Connolly try and get out of her abusive relationship and was this Mr. Handel’s response to her wanting to leave?
Why did it take two weeks to report Ms. Connolly missing?
Who finally did report her missing?
Where did Handel say she was during those two weeks?
The answers to these questions and more may establish a pattern of violence and abuse that Ms. Connolly had to endure during her relationship with Handel.
