Michael Mele pleaded guilty in Orange County, NY Monday of killing Laura Garza in December 2008. According to an article which appeared in the Times Herald Record, Mele stated he met Ms. Garza at a night club in Manhattan. She left the club with him in the early hours of December 3, 2008 and he took her to his apartment in Orange County NY. According to Mele while in the apartment she saw a photo of his girlfriend and became upset and wanted to go back to Manhattan. Mele said he tried to calm her down, but she became louder so he put his hand over her nose and mouth to keep her quiet. All of a sudden, he said she stopped yelling and moving. He put her body in a laundry basket and put it in his car and drove to a location in Pennsylvania where he dumped her.
Mele, a convicted sex offender is facing a possible 23 year sentence, but could be released in 19 years.
