Last week the 19th victim of serial killer John Wayne Gacy was identified through DNA. William George Bundy disappeared October 27, 1976. His family always believed he was one of Gacy’s victims, but at the time the only means of identification were dental records and Bundy’s had been destroyed when his dentist retired.
While this news brings closure to one family it also brings hope to the families of missing persons, including the families of the two victims we are currently investigating; Vernon Jones and Joe Helt.
DNA has provided investigators with an invaluable tool for identifying the remains of crime victims and unidentified missing persons. The technology will continue to improve and hopefully we will be seeing more stories in the headlines like that of William George Bundy.
