In our continuing investigation into the disappearance of Vernon Kent Jones we have been researching the records of unidentified males fitting Vernon’s description who are buried at New York City’s Hart Island, (Potters Field).

We have compiled a list of 15 males whose remains were discovered in 1993. On July 23, 2010 the NYC Medical Examiner’s Office exhumed a body buried on Harts Island since March of 1993. This case had some similarities that indicated it could possibly be Vernon. A DNA sample was taken from the remains and compared against the DNA profile of Vernon, his two siblings and his mother. On September 20, 2010 we received the results of that comparison which indicated they were not a match to Vernon.
We will continue checking the other males on the list and any additional ones that we may find fitting Vernon’s description. It is our hope that one day we will find out what happened to Vernon so that we may be able to bring some closure to the family.
